Klaus Findt has been appointed to lead GED Africa and the Kasomeno-Mwenda Road Project
EBENE, MAURITIUS, 4 JUNE 2021 – GED Africa Limited (GED Africa) has announced the appointment of a new Chief Executive Officer, Klaus Findt. Findt will spearhead the region’s largest infrastructure project, “The GED Africa Route”, which includes road infrastructure from Kasomeno to Mwenda, a bridge across the Luapula River and a new border post connecting the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and the Republic of Zambia (Zambia).
Findt will be responsible for structuring the project and related transactions to finalize the requirements of all direct and indirect stakeholders. He will lead teams in both the DRC and Zambia.
“I have been working in Africa for over 14 years and I know the potential this region has to contribute to the global economy. The GED Africa Route will facilitate trade through increased connectivity and will advance the socio-economic development of the surrounding communities,” commented Findt. “African infrastructure development projects like the GED Africa Route are an important step towards achieving ambitious economic growth goals,” he added.
Findt has over 20 years’ experience in providing transactional advice and leading multidisciplinary projects from conception to successful implementation in the Americas, Europe and Africa. Previously, he was the Africa Market Leader and Chief Operating Officer of the Infrastructure and Major Projects Team for Africa at KPMG. He has successfully led projects in Botswana, the DRC, Kenya, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, South Sudan, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
The transport sector is vital for economic growth and social development in Africa, and has the potential to contribute to lasting, positive socio-economic impacts. The GED Africa Route will relieve congestion at the Kasumbalesa border post – one of the busiest in Africa – and reduce the road distance from the region’s thriving mining industry to the port of Dar es Salaam by some 300 kilometres.
GED Africa has simultaneously launched a new brand identity with a new logo featuring a representation of the Luapula River Bridge which will connect the DRC and Zambia.
