SOCIO-ECONOMIC IMPACT

We are focused on growing the company in strong and sustainable ways through preserving and protecting the environment, valuing and challenging our exceptional workforce and investing in and improving the communities where we live and work. We are committed to social responsibility and to making a difference by helping build and support sustainable communities. This commitment is part of our DNA and is reflected in our key values and strategic goals. The ongoing support of this project from His Excellency President Felix Tshisekedi and His Excellency President Hakainde Hichilema demonstrates their Governments’ determination to building prosperous, productive and innovative nations. Both governments have remained steadfast in their commitment to creating better income, education, and employment opportunities for families in communities in the project area. Consequently, GED Africa has committed to creating sustainable communities through engaging local contractors in both countries for 30% of the project work, rather than the mandatory 20% workshare. Every GED Africa employee is valued for their abilities and the contribution they make to our company and to the wider community. We seek to foster a transparent, cooperative, and dynamic working environment in which employees and the company alike can thrive and where success can be sustained. A project of this magnitude will create part-time and full-time jobs in both the short- and long-term, increase skills and expertise transfer and boost local and cross-border trade and associated economic growth through enhanced regional connectivity. The collaboration between GED Africa and the governments of the Democratic  Republic of Congo and the Republic of Zambia is further aligned with the UNDP’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically ‘decent work and economic growth’, ‘industry, innovation and infrastructure’ and ‘sustainable cities and communities’ (SDGs 8, 9 and 11 respectively).
